Gin of the week: Drumshanbo Gunpowder Sardinian Citrus Irish Gin 🍋

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Sardinian Citrus Irish Gin, a delightful twist from the Drumshanbo range. This Irish gin uniquely incorporates the rare Sardinian citrus fruit, Citrus monstruosa, elevating the familiar gunpowder tea botanical from the original expression. The result is a gin with a subtle fruity, zesty sweetness, making it an ideal choice for summer sipping.

🌲 Juniper: 4.5/5 Juniper takes center stage with a robust and pronounced presence, offering a classic gin foundation that sets the tone for the overall profile.
🍋 Citrus: 5/5 The Sardinian Citrus infusion adds a delightful twist, creating a distinctly citrus-forward experience. Notes of Citrus monstruosa bring a zesty and fruity sweetness, contributing to the gin's refreshing character.
🌸 Floral: 4/5
Floral undertones provide a subtle layer of complexity, enhancing the overall aromatic profile without overshadowing the dominant juniper and citrus notes.
🍇 Fruit: 4/5
Beyond the citrus infusion, there is a nuanced blend of fruity notes, contributing to the gin's overall balance. The fruitiness adds a complementary layer to the juniper-forward foundation.
🌿 Herbal: 3.5/5 Herbal elements, particularly from the gunpowder tea botanical, offer a unique herbal dimension. The tea notes are discernible, providing a subtle earthiness to the overall flavor profile.
🌶️ Spice: 3.5/5 A measured spiciness adds depth to the gin, creating a harmonious balance with the juniper and citrus. The spice notes, while present, don't overpower the other flavors.
🍹 ABV: 43%
Overall Score:
4/5

Masterclass: Preparing Ice Right 🧊

Elevating your gin experience goes beyond the gin itself—perfecting the art of ice is a game-changer! 🧊 Here's some friendly advice on choosing the right ice to craft exquisite cocktails.

🟦 Standard ice cubes, the trusty 1x1 inch ones, are your go-to for versatility. They prevent rapid dilution, ensuring your cocktail stays perfectly chilled without losing its original flavor. If you savor a slower melt, embrace the 2-inch large cubes—ideal for cocktails like the Manhattan, offering both style and a prolonged chill.

🔵 Ice balls bring not just a chill but also a visual charm to straight spirits. And for a unique touch, Collins spears add flair to highball or Collins glasses. Craving texture? Crushed ice ❄️ is your friend, perfect for the Mint Julep or a Frozen Daiquiri. Feeling a bit dramatic? Enter dry ice, creating a mesmerizing smoky effect (but handle with care due to its frosty demeanor).

In the world of mixology, experimenting with these ice options is like unlocking a hidden realm of flavors and presentation. Whether you're a G&T enthusiast or a cocktail maestro, the right ice subtly enhances your drinking experience.

Cheers to the art of ice—the small detail that makes a big difference! 🍹✨

Story: Of Gin & Juniper 🫐

🌿 In the rich tapestry of spirits, juniper's history in gin unfolds across centuries. With roots in medieval medicinal practices, juniper was hailed for its health benefits, serving as a diuretic and cure-all. The precursor to gin, "jenever," emerged in the 16th-century Netherlands, blending juniper berries with malt wine for both medicinal and flavorful delights.

⏩ Fast forward to the late 17th century, as British soldiers returned from the Low Countries, bringing a newfound love for jenever. This sparked gin's rise in England, leading to the infamous "Gin Craze" in the 18th century. Juniper, a key botanical, masked the harshness of poorly distilled spirits during this tumultuous period.

🍸 The evolution continued, birthing the London Dry Gin style, where juniper's piney notes took center stage. From the classic gin and tonic's colonial-era debut to the modern craft gin renaissance, with a nod to sustainability and local flavors, juniper's journey weaves through gin's ever-evolving narrative. A story of botanical allure, resilience, and an enduring place in the hearts of spirit enthusiasts.
